LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The recent death of an 8-year-old has reignited a conversation on firearm safety.
“It's tragic," said Quinton Johnson, lead trainer of organization Armed and Educated, which works to teach gun safety and responsibility. "It hurts everybody's feelings; people connected to the family and in the community. Heartbreaking, absolutely. Prayers go out to the family and everybody involved."
Louisville Metro Police said the child died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Fern Creek neighborhood. No charges were filed against the adults, who police said were home.
He said it’s great people are taking advantage of their Second Amendment rights but added gun ownership can sometimes be taken for granted.
