A longtime character on “The Simpsons” has died in what could be called a case of organ failure.

Alice Glick, who was the church organist, died during a sermon in Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons,” and the show’s creators insist it’s permanent.

“In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made,” executive producer Tim Long tells People magazine . “But in another, more important sense, yep she’s dead as a doornail.”

The clarification from Long is necessary because, as Entertainment Weekly reports , this isn’t the first time Glick has died on the show. In 2011, in an episode called “Replaceable You,” a robotic pet designed to look like a seal killed Glick at the Springfield Retirement Castle.
