LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - The State of Nebraska accidentally overpaid Omaha Public Schools to the tune of at least $30 million, and it’s going to impact next year’s aid allocations.

A spokesperson for the state confirmed the overage to First Alert 6, saying it happened as the result of a miscalcuation of the state’s Tax Equity and Educational Opportunities Support Act, known as TEEOSA — and that OPS isn’t alone.

“This error also means that many other districts that rely on equalization aid from the state received less than they should have,” according to a statement from Dr. Brian L. Maher , commissioner of the Nebraska Department of Education .
