Homer and Marge Simpson on a season 31 episode of "The Simpsons."

Fans are buzzing after “The Simpsons” permanently killed off one of its longest-running recurring characters.

On Sunday, Nov. 16, viewers watched as Alice Glick, known to many as Mrs. Glick, suddenly died in “Sashes to Sashes,” the seventh episode of Season 37.

During a church sermon, the elderly organist collapsed onto the keys, ending a minor yet memorable run that began in the show’s second season in 1991.

The late Cloris Leachman first voiced Alice Glick in “Three Men and a Comic Book.” Tress MacNeille took over the role later.

The character became a Springfield fixture, known for her eccentricities, confusion, and comical interactions with Bart Simpson.

Fans will remember Bart’s first encounter with Mrs. Glick, when she put him to work for a measly 25 cents, prompting him to lose patience with her old-fashioned ways quickly.

The episode sparked a strong reaction online, with many viewers expressing sadness and frustration over the loss of a quirky presence many had grown up with.

As “The Simpsons” approaches four decades on the air, the death of Mrs. Glick has sparked debate over how the series deals with its deep bench of memorable Springfieldians.

For now, fans are left to say goodbye, and wonder who might be next.
