COLUMBUS, Ohio —
A push at the Ohio Statehouse to finally open up the flow of money that cities have been promised for over a year will come Wednesday.
Tens of millions of dollars are sitting in a state fund, all from the 10% excise tax on adult-use cannabis sales. Advertisement
Voters approved a plan in 2023 to send a portion of that tax back to communities where dispensaries operate to support education, addiction treatment and other local services.
But two years in, cities and townships haven't received a single dollar.
Wednesday, a state conference committee is considering a bill to clear the way for that money to be released.
It also includes regulations for adult-use marijuana and intoxicating hemp.
