Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said that if President Donald Trump's Justice Department tries to use an "open investigation" to block the release of the files around convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, then he's got another thing coming.
There has been an ongoing concern about Trump's recent demand for the DOJ to investigate "Democrats" who might be in the Epstein files. An ongoing investigation could stop the release of the documents.
However, Massie took to X late Tuesday night to promise that the bill includes a provision for that.
"For anyone hoping to use 'ongoing investigations' as a reason to withhold Epstein files, please read the language of the bill," he wrote.
The excerpt he included in the post reads that the documents can only be delayed if they "would jeopardize an active federal investigation or ongoing prosecution, provided that such withholding is narrowly tailored and temporary."
Massie highlighted the phrase "narrowly tailored and temporary."
He then mocked Trump by deploying his oft-repeated phrase, "Thank you for your attention to this matter."
