ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Florida's State Board of Education unanimously voted to ratify and adopt "The Phoenix Declaration: An American Vision for Education." This will establish the new guiding principles for education, according to the state's Department of Education. Critics argue the move will politicize classrooms and marginalize diverse perspectives.

The declaration, authored by the conservative think-tank, The Heritage Foundation, the same organization behind Project 2025 , and unveiled on Feb. 17, 2025, according to Florida's DOE, envisions an education system focusing on parental choice, transparency and accountability, truth and "goodness," cultural transmission, character formation, academic excellence and citizenship.
