Fred Payne scored 14 points as Boston College outlasted visiting Hampton 63-52 on Tuesday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Payne and Boden Kapke (10 points) were the lone double-digit scorers for the Eagles (3-2), who won despite shooting just 39.3% from the field and 5 of 27 from 3-point range. Luka Toews chipped in with eight points and four assists for BC.

The Pirates (2-4) were even worse at 35% from the floor and 4 of 23 from beyond the arc. Xzavier Long and Daniel Johnson led Hampton with 11 points each, while Michael Eley contributed eight points off the bench.

BC held a 13-9 lead about 6 1/2 minutes into the contest when Donald Hand Jr.'s jumper ignited a 10-0 run by the hosts. Jason Asemota and Marko Radunovic each drained a 3-pointer during the surge before Kapke's layup made it 23-9.
