Police are searching the woods in the area of Holsapple Road and Chestnut Ridge Road in Dover.

Police searched a wooded area in Dutchess County after receiving reports of someone yelling for help that turned out to be people looking for a lost dog. 

Troopers from Troop K responded to the area of Holsapple Road and Chestnut Ridge Road in Dover on Wednesday morning, Nov. 19, after a caller reported hearing a person yelling for assistance in the woods, New York State Police announced just before 9:20 a.m. 

In an update at around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said a search effort involving ground units, a K9, Aviation, and drones found nobody in distress or any suspicious activity. Instead, police determined that several people had been yelling in the woods and along Chestnut Ridge Road in search of a lost dog. 

According to Paolicelli, the timing of their search lined up with the calls for help. 

Police have since cleared the scene.
