OTTAWA — Surgery was the reason Conservative MP Shannon Stubbs missed Monday’s vital budget vote that saw the Mark Carney Liberals narrowly avoid a snap election.
In a statement posted to her social media , Stubbs said she was on medical leave after receiving “major jaw and chin surgery” at Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
“MP Stubbs was born severely premature at 6½ months gestation and weighed only 2 pounds,” the statement read.
‘”Like most neo-natal NICU babies, her heart, lungs, and jaw were underdeveloped, and she underwent immediate heart surgery. The jaw issue was identified, but was never surgically corrected.”
Monday’s vote on Carney’s inaugural budget narrowly passed the minority House 170 to 168, with two Tory and two NDP MPs abstaining.
