Event Horizon may not have an official sequel, but it does exist in the same world as Kurt Russell's cult actioner Soldier. Paul W.S. Anderson's movies may not win awards or critical acclaim, but he is an expert at delivering pulpy B-movie thrills. The British filmmaker was also a hot ticket following the success of 1995's Mortal Kombat.
He was eyed for several major projects in the aftermath, including Alien Resurrection and X-Men . He instead felt like making some truly nasty and R-rated, with Event Horizon being the result.
