Chatham-Kent council approved buying the former St. Ursula school from the St. Clair Catholic district school board for about $1.7 million.
The purchase of 426 Lacroix St. will be funded from the affordable housing reserve through money from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.’s housing accelerator fund, staff said in a report recommending the move Monday.

A demolition tender will be issued to take down the building, prepare the site for future developments, and eliminate risks and costs of maintaining the existing structure.
