Will Sukenik – a homebuilder, philanthropist and father – was remembered by community leaders and family as a devoted member of the Cleveland Jewish community and the “heart and soul” of the former Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple following his death on Nov. 9 at 96 years old.
Born in Cleveland on March 18, 1929, Sukenik grew up in the Kinsman neighborhood and attended John Adams High School in Cleveland before heading off to college to study business at Ohio University in Athens, where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Delta fraternity.
In 1949, Sukenik started his business at just 20 years old, opening Colony Lumber, and later, launching his career in homebuilding with Majestic Homes – a development company that built about 500 homes annually throughout Northeast Ohio.
