A former Upstate New York police chief has been arrested on allegations he stole money.

John Hudson, 40, of Troy, is accused of using the Town of Hoosick Falls Rescue Squad funds to purchase more than $1,000 worth of tires for his personal vehicle. Hudson, who was the officer-in-charge of the Village of Hoosick Falls Police Department and former chief of the rescue squad, turned himself in to New York State Police Tuesday.

“Those entrusted with enforcing the law must be held to the highest standards and will be held accountable for any criminal conduct,” State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said in a statement . “Hudson, while in charge of the Hoosick Falls Police Department, allegedly abused his position of trust at the rescue squad to financially benefit himself.”
