Quinte has lost a celebrated educator and author who touched the lives of many former students and readers.

Mr. John Melady died November 16 at age 87.

He was a respected figure in Quinte for decades known to readers of his 13 published non-fiction books as well as countless students when he taught and served as vice-principal at Trenton High School, Bayside Secondary School as well as the former Belleville Collegiate Institute and Vocational School.

A native son of Seaforth, Ontario, Mr. Melady was a fervent historian and wrote about all things Canadian, especially recounting those who played pivotal roles in the country’s involvement in wars.
