WASHINGTON – Congress approved and President Donald Trump signed into law a $2 million appropriation to help reduce flood risk along the Amite River.
“This funding will enable grading to restore the natural slope and width-to-depth ratios, installation of in-stream and bank stabilization structures, and revegetation of bare floodplain areas along the Upper Amite River to reduce flow velocities, bank erosion, and downstream sediment transport,” U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, R-Baton Rouge, wrote leadership on the House Committee on Appropriations on behalf of the Amite River Basin Drainage and Water Conservative District, based in Baton Rouge.
