As Delhi grapples with dangerous levels of Air Quality Index amid extreme smog and pollution, the Supreme Court has requested the Commission of Air Quality Management to consider issuing directions to all schools in the Delhi-National Capital Region to defer sports activities and competitions scheduled in November and December, to later months when the air quality improves. Advocate Aparajita Singh raised the matter and informed the court that several schools in Delhi-NCR are scheduled to hold their sports meets in November, at a time when air quality is at its worst. Appearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, she argued, Children are most vulnerable. Holding sports events now is like putting them in gas chambers.
