NEWARK - Monitoring of contaminants at the Diamond Alkali Superfund site continues, as negotiations to determine who is responsible for cleaning up the location and funding that cleanup remain slow-moving.
The federal government shutdown, coupled with recent news of corporate reorganization at Occidental Chemical Corporation (OCC) – the corporation that Newark City Council and other parties believe is legally responsible for the intentional discharges of highly toxic chemicals into the Passaic River – has seemed to stall negotiations.
