An Indian national wanted for murder was arrested over the weekend after being denied entry into Canada at the Peace Bridge border crossing from Buffalo, N.Y., to Fort Erie, Ont.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a news release Tuesday that Vishat Kumar, 22, was arrested on Sunday. CBP said Kumar illegally entered the U.S. in 2024 and failed to attend an asylum interview. He was allegedly found to be concealing his identity during a secondary inspection on Sunday.
Biometric technology confirmed his identity, CBP said, adding he allegedly used a false name and date of birth.
“Further investigation revealed Kumar was wanted in India for murder, as indicated by an Interpol Red Notice,” CBP said.
