This year’s ARIA Awards were not only a celebration of Australian music and production but also a night of girl power, as a diverse range of women artists dominated major categories.

Pub rock band Amyl and The Sniffers — currently touring Australia with AC/DC — were the big winners, capping off a hugely successful night by taking home the top gong of Album of the Year.

The band had already scooped awards for Best Group, Best Rock Album and Best Cover Art.

Frontwoman Amy Taylor joked their slew of awards made her PM.

“As the new prime minister of Australia, I’d like to say, ‘All immigrants welcome’,” she said.
