Mayor Brandon Scott is keeping his cards close when it comes to supporting Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates’ bid for a second term, saying the two have yet to discuss the matter directly.
Bates announced Wednesday on WBAL Newsradio that he intends to seek reelection in 2026 as Baltimore’s top prosecutor, emphasizing the progress his office has made in reducing violent crime and his desire to continue that work.
When asked if he planned to back Bates’ reelection effort, Scott said the conversation had not yet happened.
“He hasn’t asked me about that yet, so that’s a conversation I have to have with him first,” Scott said.
The mayor’s comments come amid signs of tension between Bates and city agencies over the implementation of the state’s attorney’s citation docket initiative,
