LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — The City of Lockport has significantly reduced its proposed property tax increase from 8% to 3.8%, with the budget set for a vote Wednesday night.
"Man, my eyes dropped. When I saw 8%, I was like, ‘That's way too much,’ enough is enough," Blake Lemoi said.
Lemoi, who runs the ‘Lockport Local’ Facebook page, said his reaction matched many of his neighbors’ reactions online.
"I just saw hundreds of comments and a lot of people saying the exact same thing," Lemoi said.
The city announced the change on Facebook just 12 hours before the council meeting.
Mayor John Lombardi III explained that the city council dropped the proposed increase to 3.8%, just below the allowable limit on property tax increases. Anything higher would have required an override vote.
