After days of concern that Premier Doug Ford’s government is preparing to annex city-owned Exhibition Place, the province says an unusual legislative move it made this fall is only about accessing pipes and wires.

After repeated requests Wednesday for clarification of a clause buried deep in provincial legislation that appears to give the Ontario government control of Exhibition Place as it redevelops neighbouring Ontario Place, a spokesperson for Tourism Minister Stan Cho told the Star that the province has no takeover plans.
