Klyde Warren Park’s long-planned expansion in North Texas is nearing its next milestone as officials prepare for major approvals and a new round of bidding.

You can already see parts of what has been called “Phase 2.0” of the park, including an expanded children’s playground and more shaded space for dogs at My Best Friend’s Park.

Now, the most prominent piece of the project — a 1.7-acre addition to Dallas’ first deck park — is close to beginning, according to Jody Grant, chairman of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.

“We’re ready to go now,” Grant told NBC 5 on Wednesday. “They’ll notice it for sure, it will be visually striking.”

The expansion will stretch the park from Saint Paul Street to Akard Street and include its first indoor event space, a 24,000-square-foot building topped
