TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The South Tucson Police Department is warning people of a rising number of telephone scams.

The STPD says the scams involve individuals impersonating police officers who falsely claim that if money is not paid immediately, the person will be arrested.

The South Tucson Police Department says it will never request or collect money over the phone.

In some cases, police say scammers have demanded payment in Bitcoin.

The agency says it does not accept cryptocurrency or any other form of payment outside official channels.

Police say anyone who receives a call should not provide personal information or money.
