Former MLB left-hander and Cy Young Award winner Randy Jones died Tuesday at age 75.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Jones, the San Diego Padres’ first-ever Cy Young Award winner, finished his career with the Mets.
Jones was a fifth-round draft pick of the Padres in 1972. He impressed in his rookie year, pitching to a 3.16 ERA through 20 games.
In 1975, he posted a 2.24 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 285 innings, finishing second in NL Cy Young Award voting to Mets legend Tom Seaver.
In 1976, he won the award after putting up a 2.74 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 315 1/3 innings.
Jones spent eight seasons with San Diego and was traded to the Mets after the 1980 season.
Over his two years with New York, he posted a 4.69 ERA over 41 appearances (32 starts).
