AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Dozens of dogs and cats at Augusta Animal Services need temporary homes for Thanksgiving week, and shelter officials say the program could lead to permanent adoptions.
The shelter’s “Home for the Holidays” program allows families to take animals home from Saturday through Dec. 2.
“Last year for Thanksgiving we had 36 dogs and cats go home for the holidays which is fantastic for the animals. They have a mental health week, they get away and distress. Research has proven that it is terrific for them,” said Crystal Eskola, deputy director of Augusta Animal Services.
