KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Following the end of the government shutdown, many SNAP households have received their full November 2025 benefits. Now, those same recipients could have to go through a whole new application process.

A United States Department of Agriculture spokesperson sent us a statement stating Secretary Brooke Rollins wants to ensure the fraud, waste and incessant abuse of SNAP. The agency said rates of fraud were only previously assumed, and President Trump is doing something about it.

Agency data on stolen benefit claims in Tennessee shows over 12,000 fraudulent transactions from approved claims, and over 4,500 stolen benefit claims that were approved. Signe Anderson with the Tennessee Justice Center said this fraud is not from SNAP users.
