Across Overland Park, you'll find new home developments described as luxury, some with price points on large signs advertising homes between $600,000 and $1 million

Leslie Karr, the Overland Park director of planning and development services, said the city is building plenty of large apartment complexes and large single-family homes — but they need more options in between those two. Advertisement

"Johnson County did a housing study several years ago, and we are not keeping pace with the number of single-family homes that we need to meet demand," Karr said.

Due to this, Overland Park is starting a new program called Portfolio Homes. On the Overland Park website , you can check out two dozen small, single-family home plans.
