ANKENY, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) --After seven months of public “exploring” another position in 2026, Iowa state Senator Mike Bousselot, a Republican from Ankeny, will seek another job next year. However, it will not be governor; it will be the same job he holds now but in another location.
Bousselot announced Wednesday that he will run for a different senate seat -- one that could be more friendly to a Republican candidate -- than the current seat that he narrowly won in 2022.
Bousselot will seek the nomination in Senate District 23 instead of District 21 in 2026. Majority Leader Jack Whitver, a Republican, currently represents District 23, but he announced that he will not run for re-election as he continues treatment for a brain tumor.
