ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Drivers and local businesses are feeling the impact as a busy 103-year-old bridge along SC 4 over Goodland Creek temporarily closes for repairs in Orangeburg County.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation says crews discovered erosion at the ends of the bridge during an underwater inspection. While the exact cause is unclear, engineers believe last November’s flooding may have contributed. The closure is expected to last until early 2026.
SCDOT has posted detour signs directing drivers along SC 4, SC 3, 96 Road, and US 321.
Nearby businesses say the closure is already affecting traffic and customer visits. Jennifer Reed, an employee at Mary’s Country Kitchen, said one trip that normally takes 10 to 12 minutes is now taking more than 15.
