IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Idaho Transportation Department workers rescued a small dachshund in early November that belonged to a Canadian woman.

A 77-year old woman survived a crash in late October that claimed the life of her 76-year-old husband, according to Idaho State Police. The couple was from Lethbridge, in Alberta, Canada. Her small dachshund, Tessa, was not recovered from the scene of the crash at the time and was feared lost.

Three weeks ago, two ITD workers saw the small dog crossing four lanes of traffic. She was nearly hit by a semi-truck. Joe and Kurt, with the department’s Dubois shed crew, directed traffic away from the small dog and attempted to rescue her, but she disappeared into the weeds across the road.
