KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Kansas City, Kansas, police are seeking federal funding for drone-stopping technology as the city prepares to host World Cup matches in 2026.

The department is applying for part of a $500 million federal grant program that provides drone security systems for major events.

Captain Kevin Fithian of the Real-Time Crime Center and Intelligence Unit said the technology would help protect large crowds. “We are attempting to apply to those systems so that we can better protect the crowds,” Fithian said.
