Watertown, N.Y. - A North Country contractor went on a spending spree with almost $60,000 given to him by a Watertown business for a construction project, troopers said.
Ronald V. Herzig, 50, of Copenhagen, was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand larceny, according to a news release from State Police spokesperson Trooper Jennifer Jiron.
Herzig was hired by Burrville Cider Mill in February 2024 to complete a construction project at their business at 18176 Route 156, Jiron said. He was paid $308,370 for the project.
After receiving a complaint on Aug. 8, troopers found that the money was used for both project expenses and personal purchases and were not maintained in the required trust account, she said.
