The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education voted Monday, November 17, to approve the initial application for the Nikolaevsk Charter School, passing the motion 5 to 3 after months of review and public debate.

The approval marks a significant milestone for the small community, which has sought for years to reestablish a local K–12 school, especially after the school district closed Nikolaevsk School in May to save costs.
