Another fireworks buyback event — the last one of the year – is being held Sunday in Waipahu.

The Honolulu Police Department, in partnership with the Department of the Attorney General, Department of Law Enforcement, and various other agencies, is holding the buyback event to help the community safely dispose of unwanted or illegal fireworks.

The buyback is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HPD Training Academy at 93-093 Waipahu Depot Road in Waipahu.

Community members who turn in illegal or display fireworks will receive a grocery gift card in exchange. The items being accepted include aerial devices (cakes), canisters, aerial shells, mortars and Roman candles.

Fireworks purchased from retail outlets or homemade fireworks and improvised explosives will not be accepted.
