Educators and advocates say fear is spreading among Latino students and their families as more than 200 Border Patrol agents are expected to arrive in the Greater New Orleans area on Friday.

“My students directly came up to me and told me, ‘Mr. Gonzalez, I'm not sure my parents are very nervous for me to come to school. I'm not sure if I want to continue my education',,” said Eduardo Gonzalez, Program Director of LUNA, a local organization that works with Latino youth.

Education advocates say this reaction is becoming more common — and they worry it could worsen in the days ahead.
