GREENSBURG, Pa. —
Westmoreland County's Bureau of Elections is using a process called "casting of lots" to determine the winner of more than 200 election races that ended in a tie.
In various cities, boroughs, and townships, opponents in these races received just one vote, Election Technology Director Scott Ross told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 Wednesday. Advertisement
"Normally, if you get one vote, the higher vote wins, but unfortunately, we got all these people who got one vote," Ross said. "So whether they wrote themselves in, a family member voted them in, or a friend voted them in, they got one vote."
"Casting of lots" uses balls with numbers inscribed on them. They are shaken in a water bottle, and the candidate who draws the ball with #1 is declared the winner.
