LEXINGTON, Ky. — A major discussion that’s circled Lexington for over 40 years will soon conclude as the city decides on a new municipal building.
A grand entrance, fireplace, chandeliers and multiple floors all make up what was the former Lafayette Hotel in downtown Lexington. In 1982, the switch from a boutique stay to a municipal building made it the headquarters for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.
The building on East Main Street and the Phoenix Building were meant to be a temporary home for the city hall.
Now, the city is pursuing a public-private partnership, or P-3, to help fund a new government center downtown.
