ALBANY, Ga. (WCTV) - Eight Valdosta residents, including a bank branch employee, were sentenced to prison for a check-cashing scheme.
According to court documents, the scheme ran from at least November 2021 to December 2022. William Roberts, who was an employee at a Truist Bank branch in Valdosta at the time, conspired with the seven others to commit bank fraud.
Roberts illegally obtained check information from a former U.S. Post Office employee in South Carolina who sold checks he stole from the mail.
Court documents show Roberts then used the check information to produce fake checks.
Frederick Green, Thomas Mitchell, Calvin McKeithen, Tyler Jones, Dewayne Butler and Davontay Wiseman recruited people to open accounts at Truist and give them the debit card and account information. They
