Applications opened Wednesday for a new grant program to support nonprofit organizations in Frederick County — an effort announced by County Executive Jessica Fitzwater to address funding fallout from the federal government shutdown.
The Helping Empower Area Resources Together, or HEART, program will provide a total of approximately $1.5 million to local nonprofit organizations that provide direct services primarily to county residents and experienced hardships from the 43-day shutdown.
