Deputies are investigating after a pedestrian was hit by a train in Rowan County on Wednesday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around 10 p.m., deputies were dispatched to railroad tracks near Pinnacle Way Drive in Landis after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit by an Amtrak train.

Upon arrival, the body of 48-year-old Luis Javier Marrero Muniz was found on the tracks.

Deputies said the Landis Police Department responded to Muniz’s residence earlier in the day for a domestic disturbance. Muniz was allegedly intoxicated and left prior to police arriving, according to police.

The incident is still under investigation.
