About 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Chester firefighters and police raced to the 200 block of Wilson Street for the call of a house fire with possibly a baby still inside.
Crews were told callers were reporting fire from the side and rear of the house, and police said heavy smoke. The entrapment was confirmed, a 2-year-old in a crib on the second floor.
From the fire radio traffic:
Soon there was fire from the roof and it was reported that police were on the second floor.
A second alarm was quickly struck. A ladder truck was pulling up to the scene and was told by command that it was needed to pull up to the second floor.
Another ambulance was summoned for a second victim walking about, but with burns to the upper body.
An ambulance went en route to Nemours/Dupont with the child.
