Torrey Pines High School placed second at the CIF State Girls High School Championship on Wednesday at Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach.
The defending state champions but finished eight strokes behind Santa Margarita Catholic High School. It was Santa Margarita’s second title in three years. The Falcons finished runner-up to the Eagles both times.
During coach Chris Drake’s 18-year run as Torrey Pines’ head coach, the Falcons have won five state titles and finished second four times.
The Falcons last played at Poppy Hills in 2023. On Wednesday, the girls improved their team score by three strokes.
“I’m really proud of our team,” said Torrey’s Kate Hu, who shot even par 71, the team’s lowest round. “We’ve all improved a lot.”
