STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Active and retired members of the NYPD were honored for their bravery, courage, and dedication to keeping Staten Island residents safe at the annual NYPD Blue Mass in Castleton Corners on Wednesday evening.
The event, held in St. Teresa’s R.C. Church, was presided over by Monsignor William Belford, pastor of the parish and dean ofStaten Island clergy, who said the opening prayer and reminded attendees of the importance of the work officers do, day in and day out, and the dangers they face.
A sea of NYPD blue filled the church’s pews. It included Staten Island’s commanding officer, Assistant Chief Melissa Eger, Deputy Chief Terence Hurson, Assistant District Attorney Timothy Koller, and members of the United States Coast Guard.
