NEW DELHI: A tragic incident unfolded at Rajendra Place Metro Station when a 16-year-old Class 10 student took his own life, reportedly due to mental harassment from his teachers. The boy's father has filed a complaint with the police, naming a teacher and three other staff members for their alleged role in his son's distress.
The student, who attended a private school in central Delhi, had expressed his struggles to his parents, stating that he faced constant scolding and humiliation from several teachers, including the principal and a coordinator. His father, who works in the jewellery business, revealed that despite multiple complaints to the school authorities, the harassment continued unabated.
On November 18, while the father was away for a family medical emergency, the boy left home for school at 7:15 am. Later that day, around 2:45 pm, the father received a call informing him that his son had jumped from the metro station and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A suicide note was found in the boy's school bag, in which he apologised to his parents and expressed a desire for his organs to be donated. He specifically mentioned the harassment he faced from teachers and requested that action be taken to prevent other children from suffering the same fate. Classmates reported that in the days leading up to the incident, one teacher had threatened to call his parents and issue a Transfer Certificate, further adding to his distress.
Witnesses stated that the boy jumped from Platform No. 2 of the metro station. The police are currently investigating the case, questioning the teachers named in the complaint and gathering statements from classmates and family members to understand the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event. The post-mortem report is pending as the investigation continues.
