LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - As December approaches, Laredoans are familiar with heavy traffic caused by caravans to visit Mexico for the holidays, but this year may be different amid the turbulent political climate and growing concern of deportations.

Some have plans to stay longer than usual.

Paisano season brings herds of people heading back to Mexico for the holiday season. These travelers typically come back to the U.S. after the New Year.

“These people have decided to come back to Mexico by themselves and for them it is important to take advantage of the security traveling with the caravans,” said Juan Carlos Mendoza with the Consulate of Mexico in Laredo.
