New Delhi: Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Bihar’s chief minister for the 10th time on Thursday after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) elected him as its legislative leader and staked claim to form the government following a sweeping victory in the 2025 assembly elections.

Kumar met Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Wednesday, submitted his resignation as chief minister and later staked claim to lead the new government. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan, the site where Jayaprakash Narayan called for “total revolution” in 1974.

Earlier in the day, Kumar was unanimously chosen as the leader of the NDA legislature party and also elected leader of the JD(U) legislative party at a meeting at his residence.
