A man who fled to Oklahoma after shooting someone to death in Morristown in 2021 has been sentenced to prison.
Tyrell Lansing, 32, formerly of Morristown, received a 25-year state prison sentence on Friday, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said in a Wednesday statement. He pleaded guilty last month to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The shooting happened about 1 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2021, near a public housing complex on Clyde Potts Drive. Police responding to the scene discovered the victim, Raijah Scott, 35, of Cedar Knolls, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, authorities said. Scott was later pronounced dead.
