Chennai: A new low-pressure system brewing over the Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday, warning of heavy rain across several parts of Tamil Nadu.
According to IMD officials, a cyclonic circulation currently positioned over the Comorin Sea and nearby areas is drifting west-northwest and is expected to consolidate into a low-pressure area soon. A second system is also likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by Friday or Saturday and could intensify into a depression within 48 hours if conditions remain favourable.
With the weather systems evolving, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore districts today. Both regions have already witnessed intermittent showers this week
